Samantha Hayes

Piano | Draper, South Jordan

Samantha started piano at the age of 10, inspired by her Grandmother's love for music. She immediately became enamored by piano and passionately learned several styles (and a lot of Taylor Swift covers) throughout her childhood. In high school, she branched out and dabbled in violin, drumline, marching band, guitar, and choir. But piano stuck around as a constant; Sam became an organist at her church and provided piano accompaniment for the high school jazz band, choirs, winter drumline, and orchestra.

Sam went on to earn several awards for piano. She was the Sterling Scholar for Music at her high school, became a Huff Competition Winner, and won a Miss Payson pageant that gave a lot of performance opportunities. Through piano, Sam won the Gerald B. Tracy Piano Endowment, the Dahlquist Music Scholarship, the Exemplary Achievement Award, the George P. Bowers Scholarship, and a few academic scholarships.

While in college at the University of Utah, Sam majored in Piano Performance. Through the U, Sam volunteered teaching group piano classes for the Piano Outreach Program and teaching private lessons for the University’s Piano Preparatory Class. Sam also volunteered at Primary Children's Hospital, assisting in the Music Therapy room and playing piano in the lobby.

Throughout college Sam supported herself by teaching piano, and she fell in LOVE with the calling of teaching! She is an enthusiastic teacher whose primary goal is to create students who are passionate about music. She works to customize each curriculum to what best fits the student’s learning style and interests, and to leave students well prepared for whatever musical goals they have in life. She has taught students as young as two years old, and several adult students. She has been trained to specialize in teaching students diagnosed with ADHD, students on the Autism Spectrum, and similar learning disorders. She prides herself on being a patient, versatile, invested, and energetic teacher. Her ultimate objective is that her students will have a lifelong love for music and be able to capture the gift that being able to play music is.

“Music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
- Billy Joel
