Marshall has always been excited about music. At age 5, he told his mother he was going to be the one to write the music for Star Wars 10 and Toy Story 4. He started taking piano and violin lessons when he was in 2nd grade, but it was a while before he realized that the practice work behind playing could be enjoyable. His goal as a teacher is to teach students to love learning, practicing, and the feeling of accomplishment that comes after mastering something difficult. He is a lover of history and trivia, as well as understanding why things are the way they are which shows in his teaching style. In addition to learning to play the piano, he encourages students to take an interest in music theory and learning about the composers whose pieces they are playing.

“Music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
- Billy Joel
