Kristen Olson began playing the violin at the age of ten. She got her Bachelor of Music in violin performance from the University of Utah and she received her Master of Music in violin performance from the University of Colorado Boulder. Kristen has participated in masterclasses and coachings from many musicians. Such as Phillip Setzer, Madeleine Mitchell, Tim Kantor, Claude Sim, Ivan Zenaty, Jasper Wood, Herbert Greenberg, Richard Roberts, Steven Rochen, the Pacifica Quartet, the Takacs Quartet, the Eyebler Quartet, the Parker Quartet, the JACK Quartet and the Bozzini Quartet. Kristen has attended the Meadowmount School of Music, the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy and the Banff Centre: EQ: Evolution of the String Quartet with her quartet, the Hexum Quartet, that she formed while at CU Boulder.
Kristen has extensive teaching experience, both privately and in elementary orchestral programs. She was a violin teaching artist at American Preparatory Academy’s Sistema Music program. Kristen loves to teach and to guide her students to be musicians with a love of music. Kristen’s years of taking private lessons, ensemble and solo performances, music festival and intensive attendances and her two degrees in performance on the violin have given her the most important tools to teach a well rounded violinist. For Kristen, it is the most important for her students to learn and grow in a fun and safe environment where they can freely express themselves through their personalities and their music.
