Sofia is an 11th-grade high-honors student and award-winning American drummer at Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah. Through advanced coursework, community service, and world-class performances, Sofia brings distinctive leadership and passion to all of her pursuits.
A versatile percussionist since Kindergarten, Sofia plays with and serves as rhythm section leader in the award-winning Crescent Super Band at the Caleb Chapman’s Soundhouse, the best youth jazz ensemble in the world comprised of many of the nation’s most acclaimed jazz musicians aged 15–18. She has toured North America to perform, from Mexico to Telluride. With GRAMMY®–nominated mentors in her corner, she has helped collect five DownBeat® Awards and two Best of State® Awards for her bands, even as she’s played alongside members of groups like the Saturday Night Live Band, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, Tower of Power, Living Colour, Dave Matthews Band, Journey, Blues Brothers, The Killers, and famous solo artists such as Jody Espina, Dafnis Prieto, Francisco Torres, Brian E. Miller, Robbie Connolly, and Victor Wooten.
As a teacher, Sofia loves engaging with students who are passionate about their instrument and music as a whole. She will work with students from a wide range of backgrounds, similar to her professional career. Working hard and diligently are qualities Sofia seeks out not only in herself but also in others.
