Jaime Varner

Piano, Admin | South Jordan

Jaime Varner has had a lifelong relationship with, and passion for, music. As a young child Jaime begged for piano lessons. She would often watch her mother teach her older sister and then later copy the concepts for herself. At the age of five, Jaime’s mother finally agreed to let her begin taking lessons. Around the age of fifteen it was clear that Jaime wanted to pursue piano at a higher level so she began to study with Bonnie Winterton. During the two years spent with Bonnie Jaime prepared for her audition for the University of Utah Music Program.

Jaime received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Utah in Music: emphasis Piano Performance in 2012. She was admitted to the program through audition and received a scholarship for her performance. While at the University Jaime studied under the direction of many influential teachers, particularly Lenora Brown. While there Jaime served as the Piano Department Chair on the Student Advisory Council. Studying music in college provided a new vision for Jaime of what music can become. The requirements were rigorous and competitive however through them Jaime was taught how to share her soul with others through the piano.

This year Jaime will celebrate her fourteenth year teaching piano lessons. She finds joy in helping others to find a love for music and discover how music works for them individually. While studying at the University Jaime enrolled in two semesters of Piano Pedagogy. During these courses she was able to observe many talented teachers, learn several different methods of teaching, and be coached on her own teaching. Jaime began to build her studio in her home and then hired a teacher when she had too many students to handle alone. Once Jaime was teaching and managing a studio of a hundred students she was approached by The Piano Place. She is excited to join this team and continue to share her love of music. From her own experience teaching she has seen that the benefits of becoming a musician are endless in all aspects of life.

After graduating from college Jaime also had the opportunity to teach Kindergarten for three years (2012-2015) at Carden Memorial in Salt Lake City. She enjoyed this opportunity as a step outside her normal musical sphere. She feels this has given her yet another view to the art of teaching children.

In Jaime’s opinion life is about finding what excites you, speaks to you, drives you, and brings color to the world for yourself and those around you. One of her main mantras for her family is “create your own reality.” She lives life to create a positive life and help others learn to do the same for themselves. While music is the most expressive way she finds this for herself, Jaime also enjoys running, hiking, reading, and anything she can do outside. Her other passion in life is her family. She is married to a wonderful husband and has two children that fill her life with joy.

“Music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
- Billy Joel
