Matt  Workman

Guitar | Draper, South Jordan

Matt has been extremely passionate about music since he was a little kid. He grew up on classic rock and always wanted to grow up to be a rock star. He started taking piano lessons at age 11 and guitar lessons at age 13, and guitar quickly became his instrument of choice. Around this time Matt began performing in kids bands organized by his teacher, and by age 15 he was teaching guitar lessons and forming bands with his friends. He also played in jazz ensembles in high school and college. Over the last few years he has mainly focused on his solo recording project, Brave Memory, and recently released his debut EP in which he performed all of the instruments and vocals.

Music theory and composition are the things Matt has always been most fascinated by, and these are important areas of focus in his teaching. He also emphasizes the importance of collaboration and learning to jam with fellow musicians. He gets a great deal of satisfaction out of working with ambitious young musicians and helping them start on the path toward achieving their dreams. Matt teaches a variety of musical styles, including but not limited to blues, rock, metal, jazz, classical, and folk. He makes an effort to tailor the curriculum to each student according to their goals and to set students up for success by helping them walk away with songs they can play with confidence. He believes anyone with the desire can immediately begin to experience the joy of musical ability.

“Music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”
- Billy Joel
