Matthew is a life-long musician, learning violin at the age of four and piano at age 9, growing an appreciation of classical music and composers. At age 11, having discovered rock and metal bands like Black Sabbath, Poison, Megadeth, Dragonforce, and his all-time favorite, Def Leppard, he picked up the guitar and taught himself how to play it using a method book and his previous training on the violin and piano. Everything would change when he found neoclassical heavy metal legend, Yngwie J. Malmsteen. Since then, he has searched and practiced endlessly for the means to play Malmsteen's works, discovering many other incredible players along the way.
Matthew began teaching guitar and piano in 2017, served a Latter-Day Saint mission from 2020-2022 in Manchester, England, where he would have many performance opportunities, and in 2023 landed the coveted job of being an instructor at the School of Rock in Las Vegas. Today, he plays gigs with prominent St. George musician, Dave Spencer, and writes his own music. His biggest influences and inspirations include those mentioned above, Ritchie Blackmore, Helloween, Paul Gilbert, Obscura, Children of Bodom, Whitesnake, and, most importantly in his eyes, Johann Sebastian Bach.
