Sydney is a new teacher at The Piano Place, where she brings her lifelong passion for music to her students. She began piano lessons at age 5, quickly realizing music would be a significant part of her life. Throughout elementary school, she continued with piano and taught herself ukulele at age 10. In middle school, she joined a band and began guitar lessons, discovering a deep love for guitar that carried through high school, where she played in multiple bands and even joined the orchestra as a cellist.
Sydney studied guitar performance during her freshman year at Utah State University, with future aspirations of becoming a music therapist. She began teaching in 2019, finding even greater fulfillment in sharing her enthusiasm for music with kids. Sydney has worked with students as young as 4, adapting her lessons to meet each child’s unique learning style. She understands that not every child learns the same way and strives to create a learning experience tailored to each student's needs.
Sydney aims to help her students appreciate each step of the musical journey, knowing that it’s natural to feel frustrated when things don’t come easily. She believes music is a process and that every mistake is an opportunity for growth. Sydney also enjoys diving into music theory, going beyond teaching students how to play by helping them understand the reasons behind the music.
Her musical interests are broad: she loves playing all genres on the piano, particularly Broadway and musical pieces, as well as contemporary and classical music. With guitar, she explores folk, jazz, and blues, but she finds joy in playing any style that challenges her and keeps her learning. After 15 years of lessons, practice, and performance, Sydney remains eager to expand her skills across genres. For her, music is an incredible, impactful force, and teaching it is a rewarding and meaningful endeavor.
