Emalee Pope has been immersed in music her entire life. She has played the flute for 40 years, piano for 37, and has been singing for 36 years. Growing up, she participated in various choirs and bands, developing her skills across all three instruments.
After her oldest daughter started school, Emalee began teaching flute lessons, later adding piano to her teaching repertoire. At age 33, she made the bold decision to return to college—this time to study music. For three years, she balanced classes, homework, performances, and practice, all while ensuring her daughters made it to their own rehearsals, performances, soccer practices, and games. One of those years, she did it all while her husband was serving in Afghanistan with the Army.
During her time in college, Emalee paused her private teaching but resumed it afterward, adding voice lessons as well. Throughout her musical journey, she has had the opportunity to sing with the Mormon Youth Chorus, several church and college choirs, multiple community bands, and an orchestra. She has worked at weddings, in recording studios, and taught at three different schools, as well as from her own home studio.
Emalee has studied under Lyle Archibald, Katherine Thompson, Colleen Harris, and several others, and she currently sings with the Salt Lake Singers under the direction of Jane Fjeldsted.
She loves teaching, performing, and especially cherishes the time she spends with her students and fellow musicians.
