Go beyond private lessons and experience what it takes to be in a rock band!

Have you ever wished you could try being in a rock band? Rock Academy recreates the garage-band experience for today’s students: you’ll be matched into a band with other students of similar ages and musical interests, then work with a Rock Academy instructor to choose a band name, create your band identity, rehearse a setlist together, and ultimately take the stage for a live gig at a real rock venue.

Who is Rock Academy for?

Rock Academy is for students who are ready to take their music beyond private lessons and experience what it’s like to make music as part of a band. No previous band experience is needed and all instruments are welcome!

To participate in Rock Academy, students must:

  • Be 9 years or older - Adult students are welcome!
  • Be a current Piano Place student
  • Have at least one year of lessons on their instrument
  • Have access to their instrument at home for practicing between rehearsals

What’s included in a Rock Academy season?

    • 8 weekly 60-minute band rehearsals at the studio. You’ll provide your availability when you apply so we can match you with a compatible band. Rehearsals are spent preparing a 15-minute setlist that will be performed at the showcase.
    • 1 full-volume tech rehearsal at our Sandy studio, giving bands the chance to rehearse their full set at performance volume before the show.
    • 1 live performance at The Pearl on Main, where each band performs their set at a real rock venue. Admission to this concert is free, so invite your friends and family! 
  • Band Identity: Each band will choose a name and create a logo for their band.
  • A Rock Academy band T-shirt featuring the logos from all of this season’s bands.

Tuition & Fees

$330 total for the season
$300 tuition + $30 program fee

Payment is charged to the card on file the day of your first rehearsal. Rock Academy tuition and fees are non-refundable.

Flexible, Month-to-Month Rentals

No long-term commitment is required. Special trial-period rates are available from May through October.

As you grow and your instrument needs change, exchanging your instrument is simple.

Convenient Delivery

Complete the quick online rental form, and your instrument will be shipped directly to your home.

Optional Protection

Fill out our Rock Academy application and let us know your instrument, experience, musical interests, and rehearsal availability. We'll use your application to match you with compatible bandmates and contact you once bands have been formed. Band placement is dependent on availability and cannot be guaranteed.
