Payton

Payton has been teaching since 2024, and specializes in marching percussion and drumset. He marched with the battalion drum and bugle corps for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons. During this time, he toured across the country, traveling as far as New York. He was the first chair drum player in his high school jazz band for 3 years, and has been playing drums since 2020. Payton has also taught small lessons in middle schools and has worked with kids aged 10-18. He has studied jazz playing in small combos throughout the years, joining local bands and playing whenever he can. His teaching philosophy is to break things down and give his students the tools to teach themselves. Payton emphasizes knowing the rules in your playing so you can understand how to get the results you are looking for, and when to break them.
